The Eisenach Ensemble

Mr Simpson’s Little Consort

The Eisenach Ensemble perform vocal and instrumental repertoire for two sopranos and instrumental ensemble of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, in particular music by Henry Purcell,  Francois Couperin, Marc Antoine Charpentier and Claudio Monteverdi.

“The last concert of the East Anglian Academy’s 2014 series was received with huge enjoyment by a large audience, unsurprisingly after a favourable mention on Radio 3 that very morning. The Eisenach Ensemble, returning by popular request, were enlarged for this occasion and comprised Cate McKee and Angela Hicks, sopranos, Phoebe Butler, recorders, Sue Snell, recorders and viol, Piers Snell, viol, Dawn Johnston, theorbo and Katharine May, harpsichord and organ. The fuller continuo group created a lavish texture in two motets by Charpentier, lending depth and atmosphere to the exquisite singing of Cate McKee and Angela Hicks, who also blended beautifully when singing as a duo: their ensemble seemed effortlessly perfect throughout.”
